Climate Change and Food Systems Resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa FAO has recently released the hard copy of the book, Climate Change and Food Systems Resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa, which was co-published with Third World Network and the Institute for Sustainable Development, Ethiopia. The contents page is pasted below for your information. The attached chapter, “Establishing a community seed supply system: Community seed bank complexes in Africa” by Melaku Worede, highlights the role of community seed banks in the conservation and utilization of community-managed genetic resources. Within traditional farming systems, community-managed seed banks and on-farm farmers’ variety maintenance are important components that serve as a source of sustained seed supply, as well as genetic materials for improved cultivar selection and enhancement. Maintenance of diversity both within and among species is crucial to supporting and developing agriculture that is ecologically sustainable and helps local communities cope with the challenges of climate change. The complete book and its individual chapters are available for download at: http://www.fao.org/docrep/014/i2230e/i2230e00.htm NB: The views expressed in this publication are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
