TWN Info Service on Free Trade Agreements 01 December 2008 http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/11/21/parliament/2606440&sec=parliament The Star, 21 November 2008 ‘Deputy minister reminded to present FTA white paper A DEPUTY minister was reminded to keep his word to present a white paper on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to be debated in Parliament. Tony Pua (DAP - Petaling Jaya Utara), R. Sivarasa (PKR - Subang), Dr Zulkifly Ahmad (PAS - Kuala Selangor) and Charles Santiago (DAP - Klang) also suggested a bi-partisan parliamentary select committee be set up on issues brought up in FTA talks. Pua said this was so as no one really knew the details of the agreement which was being debated as the Government had been secretive over the terms involved. “The Pakatan Rakyat MPs are grateful that the deputy minister has agreed with Pua’s suggestion to table the white paper before the end of the current parliamentary session for a debate next year,” they said Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan, in his reply at the committee stage of the Budget on behalf of the ministry, had said that he was willing to consider Pua’s proposal.’
