This is a short notice to inform all of you that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia (MITI) is inviting all parties to participate in the consultation that will be conducted for all relevant business and industry associations, professional bodies, chambers of commerce, individual companies and other interested parties so as to give feedback towards the upcoming Malaysia-US FTA negotiations. Please register at MITI’s website at www.miti.gov.my under ‘Malaysia-US Free Trade’ button at the top left hand corner of the main page and follow their instructions for your registration. If you cannot access the page, the contact details given on it were:

You can just send a one line email or a quick phone call/fax to register.

Upon receiving your reply from MITI, we recommend you register for as many Working Groups as possible (depending on the issues that you are working on) since one issue tends to be affected by many FTA chapters/working groups. For example the medicines issue is affected by the intellectual property chapter, the investment chapter, the dispute settlement chapter, the preamble and the liberalisation of tariffs on goods.

This could at least be another avenue that we can engage ourselves with the relevant Working Groups to air our concerns and views regarding the FTA.

Note: Please do not worry about the dateline of 30 April 2006 as TWN has managed to confirm our registration despite exceeding the date specified and the notice inviting people to register was posted after the apparent deadline.
